About Gurdwara Sri Kiara Sahib Jee
Located just 1.5 kilometers from Gurdwara Janam Asthaan, Gurdwara Sri Kiara Sahib Jee holds deep historical and spiritual importance in the early life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The word “Kiara” refers to a field, and this site commemorates a miraculous event from the Guru’s youth, when his divine nature was revealed through a simple yet profound incident while tending to cattle.
In those days, this area was considered the outskirts of Talwandi (now Nankana Sahib)—a forested landscape, away from the main village. According to Janam Sakhis (biographical accounts), the young Guru Nanak was once sent by his family to graze cattle. As he sat beneath a shady tree, he entered a deep state of spiritual meditation, losing awareness of the world around him.
The Divine Miracle in the Fields
While Guru Nanak was absorbed in divine thoughts, the cattle wandered into a farmer’s fields, prompting the owner to panic and grow angry over the expected crop damage. Outraged, the farmer rushed to Rai Bular, the village chief, to lodge a complaint against young Nanak, who was the son of the local patwari.
Rai Bular immediately visited the site with the farmer—but upon inspection, not a single stalk of crop appeared damaged. To everyone’s amazement, the fields looked greener and more vibrant than before. This divine intervention left Rai Bular speechless and sparked a change in his heart. It was here, at this very spot, that Rai Bular began to recognize Guru Nanak not just as a gifted child—but as a blessed and supreme soul, echoing what Bebe Nanaki, the Guru’s sister, had long believed.
A Sacred Field Blessed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji
After this divine incident, Guru Nanak gently led the cattle back home. On his way, he glanced at the field once more—and the entire land flourished miraculously. This moment was so powerful that both Hindus and Muslims of the region bowed in reverence to the Guru, moved by the spiritual aura and the undeniable presence of the Divine in him.
The Gurdwara Sri Kiara Sahib Jee is built in this very field, where nature itself responded to Guru Nanak’s silent grace. This sacred site reminds us of the Guru’s deep connection to both the Earth and the Divine—even in his childhood.
Present Status and Preservation
Today, the original structure of the Gurdwara still stands, holding within its walls the spiritual legacy of Guru Nanak’s miracle. A new Gurdwara building is planned for construction, and in the meantime, Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib Ji has been respectfully moved to an adjacent building for continuous seva and darshan.
A boundary wall and a Sarovar (holy tank) now surround the site, enhancing its sacred atmosphere and providing facilities for pilgrims. Since the Partition of 1947, the Gurdwara has been managed by the Pakistan Waqf Board, which is overseeing its ongoing care and potential redevelopment.
