About Gurdwaras Panjvin and Chhevin Patshahi

Located just 300 meters from Gurdwara Sri Tambu Sahib Jee, on the path that leads to Gurdwara Janam Asthaan in Nankana Sahib, lie two sacred shrines standing side by side—Gurdwara Panjvin Patshahi (dedicated to Guru Arjun Dev Ji) and Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi (dedicated to Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji). These spiritually significant Gurdwaras are revered not only for their unique architectural presence but also for the divine energy they continue to radiate from centuries past.

Though separate in their dedication, both Gurdwaras are enclosed within a common boundary wall, signifying the spiritual unity of the Sikh Gurus and their shared mission to uplift humanity through love, service, and sacrifice.

Gurdwara Panjvin Patshahi – The Fifth Guru’s Presence

Guru Arjun Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru and the compiler of the Adi Granth Sahib, graced this land during his spiritual travels. The Gurdwara Panjvin Patshahi, which honors his stay, is built without a dome, symbolizing simplicity and humility. This sacred place is where Parkash (daily recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji) continues to this day, offering visiting devotees a chance to connect with divine peace and the teachings of Guru Sahib.

The Guru is said to have arrived here first during his pilgrimage to Gurdwara Janam Asthaan, and from this point, he humbly walked barefoot to the holy birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, showing reverence and deep devotion.

Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi – The Warrior Saint’s Visit

Right next to the shrine of the fifth Guru stands the dome-capped Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi, dedicated to Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the sixth Sikh Guru, who embodied the principle of Meeri-Peeri (temporal authority and spiritual leadership). His presence here carries deep historical and spiritual significance.

In Har Samvat 1670 (1613 AD), while returning from his momentous journey to Kashmir, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji visited Nankana Sahib and chose this very site to rest. The land, full of grace and divine aura, soon became the site of a Gur Mela, a festival established by his devoted followers to honor his holy presence.

It is believed that 13 Ghumaon (approximately 65 acres) of land were endowed to this sacred site, showcasing the devotion of the local Sangat and the importance of the Guru’s brief but powerful stay here.

A Living Relic – The Preserved Tree

During his stay, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji sat beneath a shady tree, offering words of wisdom to his followers. Though that blessed tree has since withered with time, a preserved piece of its trunk remains enshrined in a glass case inside the dome of the sixth Guru’s shrine. Pilgrims from around the world pause here in silence, taking darshan of this relic and feeling connected to that divine moment in history.

While Parkash does not currently take place at Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi, the building itself stands as a sanctuary—visited by pilgrims seeking peace, strength, and solace in the memory of the warrior saint.

A Journey of Devotion and Humility

Both Gurdwaras remind us of the humble walk the Gurus undertook, showing us that despite their revered status, they always chose the path of humility, love, and seva (selfless service). These holy shrines speak to the Sikh ideals of remembrance (Simran), service (Seva), and surrender (Samarpan).
